The Liberating Power of Self-Forgiveness: A Path to Healing and Growth
"Have you ever seen a baby trying to learn how to walk? The multiple times he falls and rises back up and tries to move forward - I wonder if he could walk far, tied with shackles of the burden of times he had made a mistake and fallen on his butt."
Forgiveness is often associated with the act of pardoning others for their wrong doings. However as humans we often forget to forgive ourselves for the past mistakes we had made. We try moving forward in our lives with the burden of our past mistakes, regrets and self-condemnations and wonder why it feels heavy and tiresome to climb the mountain called life.
As humans we often find ourselves in situations where we forgive strangers but when it comes to our own mistakes we seem to have lost our compassion and instead blame ourselves and experience guilt, shame or regret. Hence, we enter a vicious cycle of negativity holding us back from our journey and growth and entitlement. No where do we condemn the act of being rational and evaluating one's own responsibility in a difficult situation. Although, we do ponder upon the effectiveness of being over-critical and punishing ourselves by replaying our mistakes in our heads, experiencing all the negative emotions again and again.
The power of self-forgiveness can ignite the light of positivity and growth in ourselves. This act of compassion can liberate us from the loop of self pity and blame. It can provide us with the strength of accepting ourselves with the flaws and working towards our goals.
As dwelling on the past brings in sorrow and despair; the light of self-forgiveness can bring in the hope for the future. Only once we truly accept ourselves with the wounds of the past can we turn a self-defeating mindset to the one a warrior who is confident enough to fight another battle for his dreams.
Although, easier said than done you might be wondering how to successfully accomplish the task of self-forgiveness. It's not a secret, just a journey of acknowledging one's mistakes and accepting one's responsibility. Only then can one learn from the past and grow towards a better tomorrow. Let go of the past and treat yourself with the same compassion you would show to others. Self-forgiveness is not an act but a journey which might not happen in a day but with one's persistent effort and a little help from our loved ones we can surely break free of the shackles of our past and discover our true spark hidden beneath.
As you read this I wish you would find willingness to take this liberating journey and discover the transformative power of self-forgiveness and its ability to bring greater peace, self-acceptance and joy in your life.
